Fethiye is a municipality and district of Muğla Province, Turkey. Its area is 875 km², and its population is 177,702. It is one of the prominent tourist destinations in the Turkish Riviera. Fethiye was formerly known as Makri. Modern Fethiye is located on the site of the ancient city of Telmessos, the ruins of which can be seen in the city, e.g. the Hellenistic theatre by the main quay.
