Florida State's Labor Day loss to SMU stretched college football beyond Saturday, but the close score at Doak Campbell Stadium may save Mike Norvell.

Florida State faces a critical ACC opener against No. 19 SMU on Monday night. The Seminoles had the benefit of a Week 0 tune-up game, but the performance was lackluster in a 34-17 win over New Mexico State.

Defense was ugly, but somehow the offense for Florida State was even worse, only managing to throw for 125 yard and going 2-for-15 on third down. The final play of the game really said it all, with the desperate Seminoles flailing around on the final play without a lot of direction, ending it all in an interception.
