The populist, far-right, anti-immigration AfD won the vote in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt

The Alternative for Germany party has won the election in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt.As per the preliminary results, AfD won 43.8 percent of the vote, according to preliminary official results.

Siegmund’s post on the social media platform X, which Musk owns, came after AfD won just over 44% of the vote in the Saxony-Anhalt election, trouncing the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz. CDU finished a distant second with 17.1% of the vote.

Alternative for Germany (AfD) may not have won the supermajority it sought in the Saxony-Anhalt state election on Sunday, but the far-right party did take another giant step toward power in a country whose postwar democracy was designed to prevent the return of right-wing extremism.
