If the Texas Longhorns have to turn to backup quarterback Matthew Caldwell, head coach Steve Sarkisian knows they'll be in good hands.
Should the Texas Longhorns just kiss their hopes of upsetting the Vanderbilt Commodores goodbye? On Monday, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed starting quarterback Arch Manning is in concussion protocol.
Texas fans might see more of Caldwell in their next matchup against the Vanderbilt Commodores, as Texas coach Steve Sarkisian gave an update on Manning during his weekly Monday morning news conference.
In overtime, Manning scrambled for a gain of 13 yards, but had to leave the game and go to the medical tent after taking a hard hit. Backup quarterback Matthew Caldwell replaced Manning, completing a 10-yard touchdown pass to Emmett Mosley V that proved to be the game-winning score. It was an easy two-minute drill for Mississippi State.
The Longhorns overcame a 17-point deficit with less than 10 minutes left in regulation and the loss of Arch Manning in overtime to stun the upset-minded Bulldogs.
