The proposed resolution declares that the city won’t cooperate with the federal government on “policies aimed to harm transgender and gender diverse people.”

The council voted 9-2 on the resolution, with Councilors-at-Large Morris Bergman and Donna Colorio voting against it.

Although the resolution is mainly symbolic, supporters said it’s important as the Trump administration cuts rights for transgender people.

The legally non-binding resolution recognizes the necessity of access to transgender health care and pledges not to collaborate with federal or out-of-state authorities that try to diminish those rights.
