Japan saw a record 36.9 million foreign visitors in 2024, a 47 percent increase from the year prior. The previous record was 31.9 million in 2019.

Japan recorded an all-time high of more than 36 million foreign visitors in 2024, spending more than 8 trillion yen ($50.8 billion) for the first time, thanks to the tourism boom favored by its weak currency.
