Pakistan, June 17 -- France began their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign with an impressive 3-1 victory over Senegal in an exciting Group I encounter. Star forward Kylian Mbappe delivered a match-winning performance by scoring twice to help his side secure all three points.

Senegal almost broke the deadlock twice in the first half when Nicolas Jackson’s effort smashed off a post and Ismaila Sarr fired over the bar on the cusp of half-time.

Mbappe, who went into the game on 56 goals, beat the record previously held by Olivier Giroud at 57.
