In the spring of 1968, just after Lloyd Carr had graduated from Northern Michigan University, his mother handed him a card with two things inside: a $20 bill and part of a poem she’d written — an inscription he can still recite from memory nearly 60 years later.

CJ Carr’s football trajectory in many ways seems like it was destined, except for one big wrinkle: The QB with Michigan in his blood picked Notre Dame.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — No. 3 Notre Dame and Michigan State have a storied rivalry without a recent chapter. That changes Saturday. For the first time since 2017, the Fighting Irish and Spartans (2-0) will square off in the Battle for the Megaphone — a rivalry that once was a featured annual attraction because of its national championship implications.

Notre Dame football quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli remembered his late father, David, who died Sept. 5 at age 77.
