When debating best individual seasons in college football history, several modern quarterbacks come to mind. So do some running backs of yesteryear.
The school announced that it would be retiring Newton’s No. 2 number after he led the football program to a national title in 2010 and won the Heisman Trophy. He is one of the best players in Auburn history and is only the fourth Auburn player to ever have his number retired, joining Bo Jackson, Pat Sullivan, and Terry Beasley.
