There’s a lasting image from Texas’ only regular season defeat from the 2024 season. Quinn Ewers was benched before halftime of the Longhorns’ loss to the Georgia Bulldogs and was replaced by Arch Manning for a brief spell.

Ewers, a Southlake Carroll graduate, played at Texas from 2022-24 after transferring from Ohio State. A three-year starter, Ewers led the Longhorns to a 33-10 record, with consecutive trips to the College Football Playoff semifinals in his final two seasons.

Ewers has 53 passing yards (53.0 ypg), completing 62.5% of his passes and tossing zero touchdown passes and zero interceptions this season. He has added zero rushing yards on one carry, averaging 0.0 yards per game. Ewers does not appear on the injury report this week.

Through the first six games of the season, Zach Wilson served as the understudy to Dolphins starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

McDaniel’s frustrating body language toward the rookie came immediately following Ewers’ first drive in the NFL, which resulted in a three-and-out after he completed 1 of 2 passes for minus-2 yards and then fumbled the third-down shotgun snap.

The Miami Dolphins are tinkering with their quarterback depth chart. Tua Tagovailoa will remain Mike McDaniel's starter, but NFL Media reports the Dolphins are promoting rookie Quinn Ewers to QB2 for Miami's Week 7 matchup against the Cleveland Browns. Zach Wilson will be the inactive emergency third quarterback.
