Richard Von Glahn, who sued over the new maps, urged the Supreme Court not to intervene, writing that the state "waited as long as possible to manufacture the present dispute over Missouri's congressional districting map" by not moving to reject the petition for a referendum until last month.

The court's ruling overturns unilateral action from Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins declaring unconstitutional a ballot measure with enough signatures to go before voters.

Democrats received some good news on the redistricting front Thursday, with a pair of favorable rulings from the supreme courts of Missouri and Maryland.  In Missouri, the state’s high court blocked the use of a new Republican-drawn congressional map this November,
