A Massachusetts mother of four hiked with family members at Purgatory Chasm on Wednesday when she fell between 50 and 75 feet, police said.

SUTTON — A mother from Topsfield, hiking with three of her four children at Purgatory Chasm, died in a fall from a rock formation, according to authorities. Rescue crews were summoned to the state reservation near Route 146 about 2 p.m. April 23. A short time later, the request for a medical helicopter was canceled.
