A coalition including IATSE, the Directors Guild of America, the Teamsters and the Writers Guild of America is gearing up to fight for proposed expansions to the tax incentives program.

To deal with runaway production, state legislators are proposing two bills that would not only raise the cap for California's film and TV tax credit program but also expand eligibility for productions.

California lawmakers plan to make the state’s film and TV incentive more lucrative for individual productions, while doubling the overall size of the program. At a press conference on Wednesday, lawmakers announced two companion bills — AB 1138 and SB 630 — to make the state’s program more competitive with other states.

Two bills were introduced Wednesday aimed at strengthening the current film and tax credit program in California, this follows Governor Gavin Newsom’s announcement this past fall to more than double the annual tax incentive cap to $750 million a year.
