George Santos , the Republican who won a congressional seat by fabricating details of his life story, then went to prison for fraud, was given clemency by President Donald Trump on Friday.

Trump in a statement late Friday said Santos was “somewhat of a rogue” but did not deserve to spend seven years in prison.

Santos had admitted that he participated in a scheme to submit false campaign-finance reports and artificially inflate the amount he raised.
