In Savannah, that freedom was honored with the second annual Juneteenth Walk to the River. If you drove along MLK Boulevard on Thursday, you could see a large crowd walking down the street.
The Walk to the River was first initiated by Mayor Van Johnson in 2024 to commemorate the holiday, and this year turnout for the event grew in size.
