While the Cybercab is currently the only Tesla without manual controls, one passenger discovered that the vehicle has a way to be operated manually despite lacking the traditional hardware for car control.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation into Elon Musk's Cybercab one day after its launch in Austin, Texas.

Riders in Austin can now hail the two-seater. The company's own July letter says batteries still set the pace.

After launching in Austin, Texas, last week, Tesla is looking to expand the Cybercab to new parts of the United States in an effort that will see the driverless, steering wheel-less, and pedal-less vehicle chauffeur people around as part of the Robotaxi ride-hailing service.

Tesla is set to host a Cybercab launch event at Gigafactory Texas in early September, after posting a flyer for the September 3rd event. The Austin automaker says winners of a sweepstakes to attend the unveiling were notified Tuesday,

Following the Cybercab event, NHTSA announced that it is investigating Tesla to ensure these autonomous vehicles meet safety standards.
