COPENHAGEN – The Danish postal service announced on March 6 that it would no longer deliver letters from 2026 and would lay off a third of its staff. “At the end of the year, PostNord will deliver its final letter... to focus on its role as the premier parcel delivery service in Denmark,” the company announced in a statement.

Sending and receiving letters in Denmark will take a big hit by 2026 as its national postal service will stop letter deliveries when 2025 comes to a close.

Danish post operator PostNord said on Thursday it would disband its letter delivery service, with 1,500 employees set to lose their jobs.

PostNord said it will begin removing the 1,500 mailboxes that are currently located around the country in June of this year.

Many will have heard the phrase ‘pub with no beer’ but with effect from the end of 2025, Denmark will have a post office that delivers no letters.

Three months ago, the Danish postal service celebrated its 400th birthday – describing itself as a “backbone of society” and lauding its “great service for the oldest postal service in Scandinavia”.
