A private company will attempt to complete a quick one-two punch at the moon’s face today as Intuitive Machines looks to follow up Firefly Aerospace’s recent lunar landing success, but this time on the south pole.

The robotic lander Athena, developed by intuitive Machines, is set to touch down on the moon near its south pole. If successful, it will be the second U.S. commercial spacecraft to land on the lunar surface within a week.

The mission comes four days after another commercial space company, Firefly Aerospace, successfully landed its spacecraft on the moon.

Intuitive Machines believes its second lunar lander may be in the wrong orientation on the moon again, repeating a similar issue the company had last year when its first lander touched down lopsided on the lunar surface.
