SUTTON — A mother from Topsfield, hiking with three of her four children at Purgatory Chasm, died in a fall from a rock formation, according to authorities. Rescue crews were summoned to the state reservation near Route 146 about 2 p.m. April 23. A short time later, the request for a medical helicopter was canceled.

A mother of four from Topsfield died on Wednesday after a fall at Purgatory Chasm State Reservation in Sutton on Wednesday, Sutton Police Chief Ton Calouro told NBC 10 Boston. Not long after 2 p.m., Massachusetts State Police learned of reports of a person who fell in the area and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement.
