An increase in streaming subscribers and growth in domestic theme park attendance helped power Walt Disney Co.'s earnings for the fiscal second quarter.

Walt Disney's quarterly results topped Wall Street expectations as visitors to its U.S. theme parks increased spending in the first three months of the year and the company saw an unexpected rise in Disney+ streaming customers.

The company’s domestic theme parks have long been seen as a bellwether for consumer confidence. Revenue climbed 9 percent, to $6.5 billion, in the latest quarter.
