A local community is in mourning after a Topsfield woman died while hiking at the Purgatory Chasm State Reservation in Sutton on Wednesday.

A GoFundMe campaign is raising money for the family of a Massachusetts mother who died after a fall at Purgatory Chasm on Wednesday.

SUTTON — A mother from Topsfield, hiking with three of her four children at Purgatory Chasm, died in a fall from a rock formation, according to authorities. Rescue crews were summoned to the state reservation near Route 146 about 2 p.m. April 23. A short time later, the request for a medical helicopter was canceled.
