Here is why iCloud is dangerous if you don't know what is happening. When you use iCloud there is only ONE copy of your photos and it is being stored in your account on Apple's servers. This means that if you delete a photo on your phone it gets deleted from your iCloud account. But more importantly, it means that Apple has control of all your photos because you don't have your own copy stored locally. This shock realization sends most of my students scrambling to get a copy of their photos back
