⚠ Please be advised: A High Surf Advisory has been issued by the US National Weather Service Boston MA for the RI and southeast MA coasts for today (6/24). DEM urges the public to avoid dangerous rip currents and high surf and to use caution along shoreline areas until hazardous conditions pass. Imagine a day without water 🚱. No water to drink 🥤, or wash your hands with 🧼👏. No water to shower🚿, flush the toilet 🚽, or do laundry 🧺. And imagine if we couldn’t clean all the water that we use before allowing it to return to nature? 😮 Staff from DEM's Office of Water Resources regulate, inspect, license and provide innovative, award-winning industry training for Rhode Island’s wastewater sector—a sector managed and operated by men and women who assure the safe, effective, and complex

Wowza – that’s somefin 🐬 you don’t see every day! Today, staff from #TeamDEM’s Office of Water Resources (OWR) observed a pod of common dolphins feeding in Mount Hope Bay just north of the Mt. Hope bridge 🌉 while conducting routine water quality monitoring for the shellfishing monitoring program. They found themselves in the middle of a feeding frenzy of dolphins and seagulls following a large school of baitfish 🐟 moving south – you just never know what you’re going to see while you’re out on

A project to remove hazardous trees from Goddard Memorial State Park is getting underway this week. These dead, dying, or otherwise hazardous trees pose a safety concern to our park visitors. A large amount of wood is being saved to be used for benches, educational displays, and art. DEM's Division of Forest Environment, which manages 40,000 acres of state-owned rural forestland, is overseeing the project. Many thanks to Northeastern Tree Service Inc. for their professionalism on this project. L

🎶 School's out for summer! 🎵 Every year, Atlantic menhaden 🐟 undergo large coastwide migrations arriving in Rhode Island's coastal waters beginning in the early spring. They sometimes enter Narragansett Bay in large numbers, where they reside until they start their southward migration in the fall. By summer, menhaden schools assemble by size and age along the coast, with older and larger menhaden found farther north. Several user groups target menhaden while they're in the Bay. Commercial bai
